Fores(t)empest

Theatre In-Balance is a Swedish/French theatre company with branches in Malmö Sweden and Paris France, est. 2016, its own theatre space in Paris and affiliated to renowned mask company Collectif Masque Paris.
Premiere /// 7. november 2025

Fores(t)empest is an original, unique, multilingual, multidisciplinary stage play, using two actors. A story-telling and lyrical performance, primarily in English, based on and re-inventing Shakespeare’s The Tempest with a timeless, contemporary twist. (Not recommended for ages under 13.)

Did you know that 40 million years ago the Öresund was a forest of birch trees, that today lies trapped under the sea between Sweden and its neighbours?

Follow the tale of Miranda, herself trapped on a remote, magical island, with an overbearing father Prospero and a lump of precious amber, as she deliberates between 2 princes – one of them Prince Caliban. Follow Miranda below the waves where she meets an alter ego Anahi, trapped inside a tree on the polluted seabed for the last 500 years…
Discover a tale of drowned slaves and self-liberation, a power struggle between nature and artifice, where only re-awakened memories and the discovery of a shared language will perhaps prove the way forward.

A guest performance by Swedish/French theatre company Theatre In-Balance, Fores(t)empest is making a brief stop in Copenhagen for 2 days after performing in Paris and Malmö in 2025. The play first premiered at Skillinge Teater Sweden in 2023.

Fores(t)empest is inspired by Nordic and Argentinian folktale, using two experienced, strong Swedish/British character actors and hand-held props, in this smaller touring version, to create an original, powerful and beautiful story of movement, magic and adventure. The theatre form also uses dialogue but focuses on story-telling, object theatre and elements of puppetry and mask.
